THE ENGINE — STEP BY STEP

Fetch odds
Every hour the engine fetches live odds from 24 football competitions via The Odds API. Odds from multiple bookmakers are compared per match.

Calculate fair odds
Pinnacle is considered the sharpest bookmaker in the world. Their margin is removed to calculate the "fair" probability — what the market truly thinks the chance is.
Fair prob = (1/odds) ÷ Σ(1/odds) across outcomes · Fair odds = 1 / Fair prob

Test Expected Value
EV measures whether a bet is profitable in the long run. Only bets with EV ≥ 3% are published. Bets below this threshold are ignored.
EV = (1 ÷ fair odds) × available odds − 1

Confidence score
A confidence score weights the Pinnacle margin. A low margin means a liquid, efficient market — higher reliability of fair odds.
Minimum confidence: 60%

Kelly sizing
The Kelly formula calculates the optimal stake as a percentage of bankroll. EdgeValue uses quarter-Kelly for risk management.

Publish with timestamp
The signal is published with an immutable published_at timestamp. This is the proof that the analysis took place before kick-off.

WHY THE TIMESTAMP CANNOT BE MANIPULATED

Set by the engine, not a human
The published_at timestamp is written to the database automatically by the engine at the moment of publication. There is no interface or admin panel that allows editing it after the fact.

INSERT only — no UPDATE possible
Signals are written with a single INSERT statement. The application layer has no UPDATE or DELETE route for published signals. Once written, the record is permanent.

Kick-off time is independent
The match kick-off time comes from The Odds API and is stored separately. The time difference between published_at and kickoff_time is calculated at read time — it cannot be reverse-engineered.

All signals shown — including losses
Every signal ever published appears in the public track record, ordered by published_at. There is no filter, no hidden archive, and no way to remove a signal without it being visible in the database.
The honest caveat: EdgeValue is currently a centralised system — the database is not publicly auditable. What we can offer is full transparency of methodology, consistent publication of all signals including losses, and a track record that grows over time. WHY CLV IS THE MOST IMPORTANT METRIC

Win rate lies. CLV doesn't.

Suppose you win 40% of your bets at average odds of 3.00. That sounds bad. But the expected value is 0.40 x 3.00 - 1 = +0.20 — twenty percent profit per euro staked in the long run.

Closing Line Value (CLV) goes even further. If Pinnacle closes a match at lower odds than you paid, it means the market has come to agree with you. You had the better information at the time of placing.

A negative CLV means the market moved the other way — you had a worse price than the closing odds. In the long run you want a positive average CLV: that proves structural edge, regardless of variance in wins and losses.
